Since 2014, I have supported different GIZ projects related to MRV systems in the transport sector.
The TRANSfer supports selected partner countries in developing and implementing NAMAs in the transport sector. The project developed a Reference Document on Measurement, Reporting and Verification (MRV) in the Transport Sector which was published in 2018 and updated in 2018. The document aims to provide guidance on how to develop comprehensive and consistent national systems for MRV of transport related emissions both for NAMA reporting and national inventories. I contributed to the development of the document as author, with a special focus on the development of indicators and the institutional setup for transport sector MRV.
In 2017 and 2018 I analysed the relationship between GHG inventories and the MRV of mitigation actions. The paper “Bottom-Up GHG Inventory and MRV of Measures” also served as a basis for the revision of the Reference Document.
The UNFCCC Compendium on GHG Baselines and Monitoring is a comprehensive sourcebook on methodological approaches, which will serve as the basis for global training programmes. It was developed by the UNFCCC Secretariat, who asked GIZ to contribute the transport section. I supported the development through advice on the structure of the transport section and quality control. Two webinars were conducted in March and May.
